its called being awesome

August 3, 2008

Meryl Smith is amazing. She’s beautiful, funny as all hell, super silly and very talented. Here she is in her apartment surrounded by some of the cool stuff she’s made, and her hamster Boomer.

Merks recently made what she calls “Excessory Baggage”. Using metal screen, paper mache, leather, gold paint and a zipper, “excessory baggage” was created for a group exhibition at The Honey Space for a show consisting of sculptures created to fit the measurement requirements for international carry-on luggage…and apparently a certain company isn’t too pleased about it. While LV makes a ridiculous amount of money off of each of their products, Merks didn’t make a penny. And I must say, it’s much more fabulous than any bags they’ve made lately. Rather than wasting their money fighting her, LV should hire Merks and make money.  Pass it on, spread it around, show your friends. It’s an incredible piece of art made by a hard working lady who deserves proper recognition. And I’m sorry, I want one.
